Quantum is a research effort from Google that aims to build quantum processors and develop novel quantum algorithms to dramatically accelerate computational tasks for machine learning. Quantum computers will leverage the laws of quantum mechanics to solve some previously intractable problems. Our Software Engineers build systems that translate abstract descriptions of quantum programs into low-level instructions and run them on custom control hardware. They support ongoing research and experiments of physicists and engineers in the group, scale the software system to handle larger quantum systems, and build out our cloud backend to expose our cutting-edge quantum devices for use by other researchers.

The Google Quantum AI team is building a quantum computer using superconducting integrated circuits. Our mission is to build systems that can leverage quantum mechanics to outperform the world's largest computers at certain classes of problems. The quantum system is an integrated system with many components, from control electronics and wiring to quantum processors. Our Hardware Engineers focus on laying the technological, scientific, and engineering foundations for making large-scale quantum computing a reality. You'll have the opportunity to work hands-on with an entirely new paradigm of computing as it advances from fundamental physics to industrial applications.

As a Research Scientist, you'll work with other scientists and engineers to address these exciting challenges, which lie at the intersection of physical insight, metrology, and engineering.

Our technical interns are key to innovation at Google and make significant contributions through applied projects and research publications. On the Quantum team, our interns work side-by-side with our researchers and help us tackle critical problems in quantum computing.
